The short answer
How can I tell if people in an online group will pay?
Look at the questions they ask. "Does anyone have a free one?" means the place expects free. "What do you all use for this?" means people are choosing tools, and often paying for good ones. Count which question comes up more.
One thing
"Does anyone have a free one?" is somebody who wants the problem gone for nothing. They'll get 20 free links, and take one.
"What do you all use for this?" is somebody ready to pick a tool, and often ready to pay for a good one.
Same problem. Very different buyers.
Count which question comes up more in a place. It tells you the price in there before anybody mentions money.
